PROM BLOG UPDATE - 12/24/03 MERRY CHRISTMAS! As a special holiday treat, PROM is proud to present "RHUBY" - a completely new, totally un-PROM-related story the author wrote this year for his son for Christmas. (If you liked "Earl the Squirrel", chances are you'll like "Rhuby".) "Rhuby" is about an extremely fast little rabbit. It's a powerpoint doc. Click on the picture below to view. All would-be screenwriters should check out John Painz' Words From Here website. It's an excellent site available to the entire screenwriting community. John offers up a number of contests a year - and last year's big winner has already optioned two scripts, thanks to help from WFH. Check it out! 12/11/03
- Way back in September, during our 50th strip celebration, Prom's original editor (EIC Ed Matthews of Popimage) came up with the idea of doing Prom "Remixes" - having other artists do their take on previous Prom strips and characters. Well, TemptingWheat6 of the Unnamed Forum! (Formerly the DP Todd forum. Check it out - very cool graphics at the new forum.) TW's strip falls between strips 61 and 62 (the Chaise Lounge). Eventually, we'll be building a Gallery for the Remixes! Let us know what you think! And thanks TW6!
11/09/03 PROM's author was thrown an incredible surprise birthday party last Saturday by his wife that was particularly Prom-themed! The first ever Prom t-shirts were created by Sarah Newman. (Sorry, no URL link...yet.) Look for more Prom t-shirts and other memorabilia by SN in the coming months.
(Okay, we'll have some better pics in a week or so...) Also, longtime friend and
collaborator (and writer and artist extraordinaire) Susan Vosburgh, designed
a special "Space Milk" sculpture that was too conch for words
(see below). For a peek at Sue's personalized animal art, check out her
Beast
in Me website. They also make excellent birthday/holiday gifts!
We got a terrific email from a UK reader, Philippa, today: "I think your strip is great, hope to
be reading it for a while to come! Once again, a big thank you to the boys at www.pyoko.org (Spram, Clutch, rootdown, Detonator, Onomarchus, Fortinbras, shoe, patito and Pacobird) for engineering all the cool traffic that Prom's been getting. Also, they clarified their web address - so check 'em out! (And a big PROM ON MARS Happy Birthday to Clutch, to boot!) And finally, a thank you to Luke aka "Lukas the Codswalloping Ape" aka "Carpetletsmove" at www.livejournal.com who ended up blasting Strip #6 to a few hundred people. "What's in store for life itself?" Good question... 10/15/03 See PROM FAQS for the answer to the question that's been zipping all over www.livejournal.com. , 10/14/03 WOW! Big, big thanks to Cliff "Cliff Yablonski" Yablonski for making Prom the "Awful Link of the Day" at www.somethingawful.com! and almost knocking out our servers with all the hits! (We hope Cliff takes the time to read all of the Prom strips before passing too much judgement. But until Time.comix gives us a plug, we'll take any hits we can get.) And we were just about to thank www.dumbrella.com and Clutch at www.pyoko.org for their hits. Prom also got some very nice traffic from both www.keenspot.com and www.keenspace.com, this week. And to cap it all off was a lovely "Ink Link" award from www.planetcartoonist.com. Check 'em all out, folks. 9/19/03 Thanks to everyone for checking out PROM during the 50th strip celebration! Prom had more hits and visitors last week than ever before! Look for more special features, including the new MYSTERY page, coming up in the next couple of weeks! 9/18/03 - 50th Strip Celebration!! Welcome to the 50th Strip Celebration of PROM ON MARS! Woo Hoo. With Strip #50, Prom hits the 1/3 mark in its story. (Yes, the kids will eventually get to Mars. See the updated FAQs page for more info.) Due to the response to the celebration, we'll be continuing all the 50th Strip stuff through Friday, September 19th. After drying off and filing our insurance claims from Hurricane Isabel, strips #51 & 52 will be posted this weekend! 8/28/03 FYI - PROM will be on vacation next week, returning in two weeks with a special 50th strip celebration! For excellent articles and coverage of the real planet Mars, as it becomes more visible in the night sky this week, check out Joost Schuur's MARTIAN SOIL! 8/14/03 In case you haven't noticed yet, the art repro on the new comics just slightly improved. We've switched over to PNG files (from GIF) and they come out a bit nicer (although they're slightly bigger files). Eventually, we hope to go back and convert all the archived comics to PNG. Anybody who'd still like a HARD COPY (i.e. paper) of any strip in all its lush, original powerpoint beauty, drop us a line... 8/8/03 Yes, it's true. Soon YOU will be able to vote for the Prom Queen and King! Before blogging was a common household word (and certainly before the world-famous Prom Blog!) - there was TAO OF PAULY. TOP records the daily adventures of Pauly aka Tevin McGrupp (or is it the other way around?) - and his experiences in becoming a professional writer/journalist - and following Phish on tour, to boot! It's a truly interactive journal, cool, human and entertaining. (And as soon as we build some links here, he'll be on it!) Check out the new Prom FAQs and Who's Who on the Shuttle pages (if you haven't already). Lots more Kukla stuff coming up in the next few weeks... PROM ON MARS is a FREE, weekly web comic that began running twice a week in March, 2003 at www.Popimage.com. (It's still running there, too. And check out PI! They're way Conch!) PROM runs new strips here twice a week, with the entire web comic from the beginning collected in the Archives section. PROM will be running for one year only (approx. 120-130 strips), and is scheduled to end in June, 2004. THE FABULOUS ARTWORK All the art in PROM was created using Powerpoint software and converted to GIF files (which print terribly!). Anyone interested in a signed copy of a strip from the original powerpoint files (which print extremely nicely), please contact Alex B. (Free for a limited time! Double Conch!) TONGUE TWISTER! Try to say "PROM BLOG" three times fast! (You can't, can you!? Montrose!) Email the shuttle your thoughts and FAQs! Send Liz (or Cal or Lena) an email and we'll forward it on to her! Join our mailing list for free weekly strips, upcoming Prom news, new site features...and more nukular stuff - emailed directly to you!
